Overview
Accessibility & Equal Access Statement
Miranda Counseling is committed to providing therapy services and professional training in a manner that is welcoming, inclusive, and accessible to all individuals. We comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and applicable Kansas state accessibility laws. We do not discriminate on the basis of disability, race, color, national origin, religion, age, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, marital status, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic.
We believe that mental-health care and professional education must be available to every qualified person, and we work proactively to remove barriers — physical, communication-based, sensory, and digital — that could limit participation.

Accommodations for Therapy Clients
We welcome clients of all abilities and will make reasonable accommodations to ensure full and equitable participation in therapy. Available accommodations include, but are not limited to:
- Mobility support — accessible entry, seating arrangements, and session-room setup tailored to your needs
- Sensory accommodations — adjustable lighting, reduced sensory stimulation, quiet waiting areas, and fidget-friendly environments
- Communication support — written materials in larger print, plain-language summaries, written follow-ups after sessions, and extended session pacing
- Hearing accommodations — willingness to coordinate with sign-language interpreters; written communication during sessions when helpful
- Vision accommodations — large-print intake paperwork, verbal descriptions of materials, and screen-reader-compatible electronic forms
- Telehealth alternative — secure video sessions when transportation, mobility, immune-related, or sensory needs make in-person visits difficult (where state licensure permits)
- Service animals — service animals are welcome in all client and training areas in accordance with the ADA
- Support persons — clients may bring a support person to intake or sessions as clinically appropriate
- Neurodiversity-affirming care — flexible session structures for clients with ADHD, autism, sensory-processing differences, or other neurodevelopmental profiles
- Flexible scheduling — accommodations for clients managing chronic illness, fatigue, medical appointments, or caregiving responsibilities
To request an accommodation, please contact your clinician directly or call our main office at (913) 295-9800 at least 48 hours before your appointment when possible. We will engage in an interactive, confidential conversation to identify the accommodation that best supports your participation. Requests made with less notice will still be honored to the greatest extent possible.
Accommodations for Professional Training Participants

Available training accommodations include, but are not limited to:
- Accessible training facilities — step-free access, accessible restrooms, accessible seating, and movement breaks
- Sign-language interpreters or CART (real-time captioning) — available upon advance request; please contact us at least three (3) weeks before the training start date so arrangements can be confirmed
- Captioning for virtual trainings — live captions enabled on all Zoom/virtual sessions; recorded segments captioned where applicable
- Materials in alternative formats — large print, electronic text compatible with screen readers, or audio recordings of required reading where copyright permits
- Adjusted practicum pairings — sensitive pairing for practicum and consultation portions to ensure equitable participation
- Extended-time and rest accommodations — additional breaks, flexibility on assignment due dates within the 12-month EMDRIA completion window, and asynchronous review of lecture material when supported by the training format
- Mobility and sensory supports — adjustable lighting, low-distraction practice spaces, ergonomic seating
- Service animals welcome in all training spaces
- Quiet rooms for sensory regulation or medical needs during long training days
To request a training accommodation, please email info@mirandacounseling.com or call (913) 295-9800 as early as possible — ideally at the time of registration, and no later than three (3) weeks before the training start date. Late requests will be accommodated to the fullest extent reasonably possible. All accommodation requests are confidential and will not affect your training eligibility, grading, or certification.
Digital Accessibility
We strive to ensure our website, registration forms, telehealth platform, and electronic learning materials meet or work toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards. This includes:
- Keyboard-navigable pages
- Descriptive alt text for meaningful images
- Sufficient color contrast for readability
- Compatibility with major screen readers
- Captioned video content
- Forms that can be completed using assistive technology
If you encounter a barrier on this website or in any of our digital materials, please notify us at (913) 295-9800 or info@mirandacounseling.com and describe the issue. We will respond within five (5) business days and work to provide the information you need in an accessible format.
Language Access
If English is not your preferred language, please let us know in advance and we will work with you to identify a clinician who speaks your language, arrange interpreter services where feasible, or provide a referral to a culturally and linguistically appropriate provider.
Grievance Procedure
If you believe you have been denied a reasonable accommodation, or if you have a concern about access to our services or trainings, you may file a confidential grievance with our practice owner:

- For training-related complaints, you may also contact EMDRIA at emdria.org (for EMDR-specific trainings).
Continuous Improvement
Accessibility is an ongoing commitment, not a one-time checklist. We welcome feedback from clients, trainees, and members of the public on how we can do better. Please share suggestions by phone, email, or by speaking directly with your clinician or training facilitator.
